Wednesday, April 21st.
This morning we drove south to Carlsbad Caverns National Park and took the 1.25 mile "Big Room" self-guided route. It was the first cave we had visited that was dry on the inside. However, it is under a desert which might explain the lack of water. It had a large 8.2 acre open space which explains the name "Big Room". It was pretty and had a nice path where we walked
After lunch, we drove north to Roswell, New Mexico and toured the International UFO Museum and Research Center. The Roswell story goes something like this; in July of 1947, at the start of the Cold War hysteria, something strange and metallic crashed into a field outside town, and the Army Air Corps came and recovered it. Reports to the effect that a flying saucer had landed in Roswell appeared in the local paper, and quickly spread around the globe, only to be denied by the government, which claimed the flying saucers were actually weather balloons. Thirty-one years later, a retired military intelligence officer from the Roswell base sold a story to the National Enquirer, repeating details of the 1947 "flying saucer" crash, and telling of his subsequent capture of extraterrestrial beings. Was this a phenomenon or a hoax? You can decide.
This is a picture of Carolyn in front of the UFO Museum talking on her cell phone to Sue Hall, a good friend from back home. It's alway nice when a friend thinks about you when your away.
Tonight we went to Bible Study at the Hermosa church of Christ, a very friendly group of people. We really enjoyed our time with them.
It is starting to thunder now and raindrops are beginning to fall. It should be a good night for sleeping. It was in the 90's today.
